If you stroll through Old Wharf Park on East Main Street, you’ll notice that the Historical Committee has erected three historical markers which tell the story of the growth of the center of town and the business district in Oceanport’s past. The markers are a wonderful addition to the beautiful waterfront park there.
If you go to Borough Hall on Oceanport Way to pay your taxes or to attend a Council meeting, you’ll see two display cases in the lobby. The Historical Committee maintains the display cases and changes the displays throughout the year with different aspects of Oceanport’s history.
The Historical Committee continues to offer the book Oceanport A Great Place To Live, the sequel to Oceanport in Retrospect, that we published to commemorate Oceanport’s Centennial, detailing Oceanport’s history from 1970 to the present, for sale. Softcover copies are available for $40.00 cash or check made payable to the Borough of Oceanport, and hardcover copies are available for $75.00 cash or check made payable to the Borough of Oceanport. If you’re interested in purchasing a copy, please see the Oceanport Centennial Facebook page or inquire at Borough Hall. Copies can be shipped out of town for an additional charge by the Historical Committee.
We continue to encourage residents past and present to share photos, documents, and other memorabilia from Oceanport’s past with us. To contact a member of the Historical Committee, please check the Oceanport Centennial Facebook page, or contact the Borough Clerk’s office.
The Historical Committee has coordinated with the Borough to offer banners for the light posts on East Main Street, has hosted a free 63rd Army Band concert for the previous few summers at Blackberry Bay Park, and has also hosted free presentations by local historical speakers with a plan to continue to host additional speakers. The Committee also participates in Monmouth County’s Archives & History Day in October and presents a historical display of Oceanport at that time.
We are working closely with the Borough of Oceanport in planning a series of celebratory events for the celebration of our nation’s Semiquincentennial Celebration in 2026 in conjunction with Monmouth County’s 250 Committee, and we have Oceanport Semiquincentennial tee shirts, car magnets, and Christmas ornaments for sale.
